S-N Military Communication Line to Be Set Up
2003-06-21
Military officials from South and North Korea met Friday (June 20) to discuss opening a hotline to facilitate communication for construction work to reconnect a cross-border railway in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) along the east coast, the Ministry of National Defense said.
North Korea had responded positively to the South's June 4 proposal that the two sides install a hotline for communications as part of the project to reconnect the inter-Korean railway along the east coast.
South and North Korea have already established a hotline along the DMZ in the western section of the border where construction work is underway for the Gyeongui Railway.
The hotline is supposed to help avoid unnecessary clashes along the border and facilitate communications while construction work is underway for the railway and road project.
