A group of 103 South Korean non-governmental relief officials left for North Korea Monday to monitor the distribution of aide delivered to the North, the group said as quoted by the Yonhap News Agency.
The visitors from Good Neighbors flew to the North¡¯s capital, Pyongyang, on a chartered flight. It is the largest group of South Koreans to visit the North in recent months.
North Korea had banned outside visitors for several months because of fears about the spread of SARS.
During the four-day trip, the South Koreans will visit livestock and poultry farms, hospitals, a pharmaceutical research institute and a primary school in Pyongyang, which received relief goods including milk and livestock, the group said in a news release.
The visitors will also meet with Pyongyang officials to discuss future aid programs, it said.
Good Neighbors has shipped 27 billion won ($22.9 million) worth of relief goods to the North since 1995.
