to North Korea> o
During the month of November, the total number of applications for
visits to North Korea was 83, a decrease of 17.0% from 100 in October.
It included 30 for economic exchanges, 8 for social and cultural
exchanges, 9 for tourism, 12 for the LWR project and 24 for humanitarian
aid.
· The number increased by 69.4% from 49 in November
2001.
o The total number of actual visits made during this
period was 1,215, a decrease of 44.5% from 2,190 in October.
It included 213 for economic exchanges, 97 for social and cultural
exchanges, 91 for tourism, 384 for the LWR project and 430 for humanitarian
aid.
· The number increased by 125.8% from 538 during
the same period last year
* The total number of Mt. Geumgang tourists during Noember
was 10,985 in 20 trips altogether, showing a 10.4% decrease from
12,270 in October and an 212.3% increase from 3,517 during
the same period last year.

with North Koreans> o
During the month of November the total number of the applications
for inter-Korean contact was 143, a decrease of 18.2% from 175
in the previous month. It included 39 for family reunion, 81 for
economic exchanges, 22 for social and cultural exchanges and 1 for
tourism.
· The number increased by 47.4% from 97 during the
same period last year.
o The total number of actual contacts made during
this period was 93, including 26 for family reunion, 43 for economic
exchanges, 24 for social and cultural exchanges.
· The number increased by 30.9% from 91 during the
same period last year.
<Inter-Korean
Trade>
<Overview> o
The total volume of inter-Korean trade during November 2002 was
$126.655 million in 236 items, showing a 29.3% increase from $97.944
million in 231 items during the previous month and a 284.3% increase
from $32.954 million in 225 items during the same month last year.
o Import from North Korea totalled $68.500 million
in 90 items, a 82.5% increase from $37.543 million in 80 items during
the previous month and a 201.4% increase from $22.729 million
in 82 items during the same month last year.
·Of this, the total amount of commercial imports
were $68.154 million, non-commercial imports accounted for $346,000
·Commercial imports included $15.294 million of
products in processing trade and $52.860 million of other commercial
transactions.
·$346,000 of non-commercial imports were materials
for other cooperation Projects.

o Export to North Korea totalled $58.154 million
in 172 items, a 3.7% decrease from $60.402 million in 183 items
during the previous month and a 468.7% increase from $10.225 million
in 167 items during the same month last year.
·Of this, the total amount of commercial exports
was $4.675 million while non-commercial exports accounted
for $53.480 million.
·Commercial exports included $4.175 million of raw
materials for processing trade and $500,000 of other commercial
transactions.
·Non-commercial exports included $10.364 million
of materials for the LWR project, $40.527 million of humanitarian
aid, $1.234 million of materials for the Mt. Geumgang project
and $1.355 million of materials for other cooperation projects.

Trade> o
The total volume of processing trade during November 2002 was $19.468
million, a decrease by 38.2% from $31.496 million in the previous
month, and a 54.3% increase from $12.621 million during the same
month last year. This constituted 15.4% of the total inter-Korean
trade or 26.7% of commercial trade during the month of November.
o The volume of import in processing trade was $15.294
million, a decrease by 40.9% from $25.894 million in the previous
month, and a 66.2% increase from $9.204 million during the same
month last year.
