LOCKHEED MARTIN RECEIVES $80 MILLION ARMY TACMS BLOCK IA CONTRACT FROM KOREA

First International Sale of Army TACMS Block IA Missiles

DALLAS, TX, December 4, 2001 -- Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control has received an $80.7 million contract to produce 111 Army Tactical Missile System (Army TACMS) Block IA missiles for the Republic of Korea. The contract represents the second purchase of the Army TACMS system by Korea and the first international sale of the Army TACMS Block IA system.

The Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract includes 110 Army TACMS FMS Block IAs and one ATACMS FMS Block IA for testing. The U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., is responsible for the contracting activity.

Korea first purchased the Army TACMS Block I system in October 1997. Greece, Turkey and Bahrain currently have the Army TACMS Block I system in their inventories.

Work will be performed at the company's Horizon City, Texas, facility, with completion expected by April 2004. The missile includes an INS/GPS guidance system and a warhead fitted with 300 anti-personnel/anti-materiel bomblets.

In April 1994, the U.S. Army awarded Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control an Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) contract to improve the range and accuracy of Army TACMS. Range was increased by reducing the payload of M74 bomblets and adding the Global Positioning System to Army TACMS' guidance system. The resulting increase in accuracy makes the Army TACMS Block IA one of the most effective deep strike weapon systems available. Low-rate initial production of the Block IA began in July 1997.

Employing more than 8,500 people, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with additional base operations in Orlando, Fla., and manufacturing and assembly facilities in Sunnyvale, Calif., Chelmsford, Mass., Camden, Ark., Horizon City and Lufkin, Texas, Ocala, Fla., White Sands Missile Range, N.M., and Troy, Ala. The company is a business unit of Lockheed Martin Systems Integration in Bethesda, Md.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 125,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2002 sales of $26.6 billion.
