Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Alexei Overchuk, today on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of Government meeting in Moscow.
The Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings and good wishes of Pakistan's leadership to Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk and to the Russian leadership. He underscored the importance of enhanced high-level engagement between the two countries, noting that Pakistan attaches great significance to strengthening and deepening its relations with Russia across all areas of mutual interest, including political, trade, energy, connectivity, agriculture, industry, education, science and technology, information technology, people-to-people linkages, and tourism.
Deputy Prime Minister Overchuk fondly recalled his successful visit to Islamabad in September 2024, as well as his meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on the margins of the SCO-CHG in Islamabad in October 2024. He noted Pakistan's tremendous potential to emerge as a regional hub for transit trade and connectivity. He also appreciated Pakistan's establishment of relations with Armenia, which he observed would contribute to strengthening Pakistan's ties with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Both leaders exchanged views on key regional and global developments and reaffirmed their resolve to further deepen cooperation at bilateral and multilateral fora, including the United Nations and the SCO.
