Pakistan's Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) has announced that the number of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country's North Waziristan Agency has reached almost 800,000.
According to the data provided by the FDMA on Tuesday, 787,888 people have been forced out of their homes due to the military operation by the Pakistani army against pro-Taliban militants in North Waziristan.
The registration process of the displaced people who have travelled from North Waziristan to Peshawar and other northern districts began yesterday. The same process was underway in Bannu at three registration centers for those who have travelled to southern districts.
The Pakistani army began the offensive against militant hideouts in the volatile North Waziristan tribal region on June 15. The operations came after a raid by the pro-Taliban militants on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on June 8, in which 37 people were killed. On June 9, the militants also carried out another attack on a training center outside the airport in Karachi.
Pro-Taliban militants have carried out numerous attacks against security forces as well as civilians and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country.
