Pakistan's ex-President Musharraf arrested in Islamabad mosque operation case

Islamabad, Oct: 10, IRNA -- Pakistans former military President Pervez Musharraf was formally arrested for ordering military operation on Islamabad's Lal Masjid during his tenure which led to the killing of around 100 people including madrassa students.
Haroon Rashid, son of the slain deputy of the mosque had filed a case against Musharraf for the killing of his father during the 2007 operation.
The Islamabad High Court had ordered registration of case of the murder of Abdul Rashid Ghazi against Musharraf last month.
The Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Javed Paul, confirmed arrest of Musharraf in the case and told the media that the police have also questioned the former President about the incident.
An investigation committee had also been formed on the court's order which questioned Musharraf at his farmhouse on Thursday.
The military had launched military raid on the mosque after the students, some of them armed, refused to surrender. Ten security personnel had also killed been in exchange of firing.
Musharraf had defended the operation and stated that the militants had taken control of the mosque, adjoining girls religious and a government's children library.
The former president was arrested shortly after the Supreme Court issued his release order in the murder case of tribal elder, Nawab Akbar Bugti.
Musharraf had already got bail in the case of the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the case of placing of judges under the house arrest.
The apex court release orders had raised speculations that Musharraf could go abroad under a deal.
Courts were moved on Thursday for barring Musharraf from going abroad.
