Islamabad, Sept 20, IRNA -- Pakistani Taliban has demanded release of 50 prisoners languishing in various prisons across the country, a religious leader, who claimed to have been contacted by the militants, has said.

Javed Ibrahim Paracha, a former member of the National Assembly, claimed that the Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud contacted him and made the demand for the release of the inmates.

Paracha belongs to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and is being considered close to the militants.

Paracha said the Taliban leadership had named the Taliban prisoners for their release and that he visited a prison in Rawalpindi city near Islamabad and met some prisoners.

The prisoners belong to banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Sipah-i-Sahaba and the TTP.

Paracha informed the media that a procedure for the militants’ release was under consideration.

Section of the media quoted the Taliban spokesman as denying Paracha claim and said that Taliban have not contacted him.
