A series of violent clashes between security forces and militants have claimed the lives of at least eight people in different violence-wracked regions of Pakistan.

Local security officials say at least one security man was killed and two others injured in a militant attack in northwestern town of Bannu on Sunday.

The causalities come after heavily armed militants targeted a security forces’ vehicle with a remote- controlled bomb in Khawa Khawar area of Bannu.

A volunteer has transferred the injured security personnel to a nearby hospital in the troubled region.

In another incident, a blast near a check post in Sateen area of Kurram tribal region killed one security personnel and injured six others.

Separately, at least six militants, including their commander, were killed during a security forces' operation in Dera Bugti district of southwestern Balochistan Province on Sunday.

The local security personnel also discovered explosives and heavy weaponry from the militants' hideout in the region.

The Pakistani army has launched several fresh operations in the troubled northwestern and southwestern regions in a bid to flush out militants from the volatile areas.

Despite the Pakistani government's operations against Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups, they have still been able to spread their influence in various regions of the country and kill thousands of people.

Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.

Thousands others have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.

Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.
