Pakistani Lawmaker Killed In Drive-By Shooting
June 21, 2013
KARACHI -- Gunmen in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi have shot dead provincial lawmaker Sajid Qureshi and his 25-year-old son outside a mosque where they had been attending Friday Prayers.
Police say the elder Qureshi, a member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly, was targeted in the drive-by shooting.
A passerby also was killed outside of the mosque.
Qureshi was a member of the secular Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the most powerful political party in Karachi.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the June 21 killings.
But party members have been targeted by a series of Taliban attacks since the run-up to Pakistan's May 11 general elections.
