Pakistani Air Force fighter jets have bombed militant compounds in the country’s rugged northwestern tribal region close to the border with Afghanistan, killing at least six militants and injuring nine others, Press TV reports.
The strikes occurred on Thursday in Asmat Sangla area of the Upper Orakzai tribal region.
During the aerial attacks Pakistani military aircraft also destroyed three militant hideouts.
The Pakistani Army has stepped up its operations in the tribal regions since the beginning of 2013.
On February 23, government officials said Pakistani fighter jets bombed militant positions in the remote Bermela, Khadizai, Mamozai, and Samabazar areas of Upper Orakzai region, and killed at least 15 militants.
On February 20, at least 29 militants were killed and several others were injured in similar airstrikes carried out by Pakistani fighter jets in the country’s northwestern tribal area of Khyber Agency.
Despite the Pakistani government's operations against Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants and associated groups, they have still been able to spread their influence in various regions of the country and have killed thousands of people.
Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US on the so-called war against terrorism, according to local media.
Since late 2009, there has been a surge in militant attacks in Pakistan.
Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
