Pakistan blast death toll rises to 18

Islamabad, April 17, IRNA -- The death toll in yesterday’s bomb attack on an election meeting in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar, mounted to 18, police said.
The Awami National Party (ANP) was holding a meeting at Yaka Toot area of Peshawar when the bomb exploded in the crowded area.
Police and doctors confirmed that at least 18 people were killed and more than 56 others, including policemen injured.
Hospital sources said that a former minister and a senior leader of the ANP, Ghulam Ahmad Bilour was among the injured.
Sources say that a police officer and a child were among those killed.
The injured were shifted to the nearby main hospital. Several injured were registered in critical condition.
Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban spokesman, Ehsanullah Ehsan, said they will continue attacks on the ANP.
Taliban had earlier warned that they will attack the ANP, Pakistan Peoples Party and Mutahida Qaumi Movement for their secular policies.
Meanwhile Awami National Party (ANP) leader Farooq Khan’s vehicle has been targeted in remote controlled bomb blast in Sardheri area of Charsadda Wednesday, local media reported.
According to initial reports, ANP leader Farooq Khan was on his way for election campaigning in Sardheri area when an improvised explosive device (IED) hit his car. Sources told that Farooq Khan has sustained minor injuries due to the explosion.
