A bomb blast at a television network office in the Pakistani port city of Karachi has killed three people and wounded five others, police and hospital officials say.
Police said that the remote-controlled bomb, which went off late Thursday, was planted in a bag near the gate of the cable network operator's office in a poor area in the east of the city, AFP reported.
"Somebody put a bag filled with explosives near the gate of the cable operator's office and exploded it through remote control," senior police official Naeem Baroka said.
"Three people were killed and five others wounded," Baroka added.
Hospital officials also confirmed the death toll.
"We received three dead bodies and five wounded from the cable operator blast site," Seemi Jamali, a doctor at Jinnah Hospital said.
The bomb attack is the latest in a string of violent attacks in the city. On Wednesday, gunmen killed Parveen Rehman, a prominent woman development worker, in Orangi Town, a town in the northwestern part of Karachi.
In January, 2013, Pakistan’s Citizens-Police Liaison Committee issued a report, saying that 2,124 people died in the city in 2012 due to violence linked to ethnic and political tensions, marking the deadliest year for the financial hub since records began nearly two decades ago.
