Gunmen kill 6 security men in Pakistan’s Punjab province

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, July 10, IRNA -- Unidentified men Monday attacked a camp of Pakistani security forces in eastern Punjab province and killed at least security personnel, the army said.

Five other security men were injured in the early morning attack in Gujrat district, an army statement said.

The attackers fired at an army camp along a river.

The gunmen, who had arrived in a car and motorcycle, fled after the attack, police said.

The injured army men were shifted to a military hospital in the area.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The government blames such attacks on suspected militants.

The security forces and police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and also conducted a search operation. No one has been arrested so far.

Attacks on security forces in Punjab province are rare and the Monday’s attack was first in months.
