Pakistani Taliban kill 15 abducted security men

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Jan. 5,IRNA -- Pakistani Taliban Thursday said they have killed 15 security personnel who had been kidnapped last month after they attacked a fort of security forces near South Waziristan tribal region.

Taliban spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan told Pashto-language Khyber television that bodies of the slain Frontier Constabulary (FC), a tribal militia force, have been thrown.

There was no official confirmation of the report.

Armed Taliban militants had kidnapped 15 security personnel on December 23 after they launched a pre-dawn attack on the FC’s ‘Mullazai Fort’, in Tank district, near South Waziristan tribal region.

Taliban had demanded release of their militants for exchange of the FC personnel.

Taliban spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan said that bodies of the kidnapped FC men have been kept at Spin Tul, an area near North Waziristan tribal region, Khyber TV reported.

Correspondents in the region said they received calls from the Taliban spokesman early morning to claim killing of the kidnapped FC men.

The Taliban have killed the security men in apparent retaliation to the security forces operation against Taliban militants in Khyber tribal region few days ago.

The Taliban spokesman also warned more revenge attacks in the coming days. He said Taliban will also revenge the security forces operation in Zhob district of Balochistan province which killed several militants on Wednesday.

The reporter said Taliban had been angry at the arrest of several ‘women’ family members of the militants after the operation in Tirah valley in Khyber agency.

Urdu-language Samaa TV also reported that the kidnapped security men have been killed.

Officials said that a wanted Taliban commander Kamran Khalid was among 12 Taliban militants killed in the Khyber agency operation on Sunday.

The kidnapped security men have been killed just three after five Taliban factions agreed on formation of a Council to remove differences and to punish those who kidnap people from ransom.

The incident happened amid reports of talks between the government and the Taliban militants. Deputy chief of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, Maulvi Faqir had calimed talks are going on with the government. But the TTP spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan had denied the claim.
