IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Nov 22, IRNA -- A spokesman for a Pakistani militant group Monday claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a camp of paramilitary forces in the restive-southwestern Balochistan province, killing at least 14 security forces.
TV channels reported that 14 Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers were killed and 16 others were injured in the attack late Sunday night.
Clashes continued till Monday morning and the security forces are conducting operation in the Chamalang mountainous area, reports said. Official sources said that the FC has also implicted heavy losses on the militants.
Azad Baloch, spokesman for the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), called reporters in Quetta, the provincial capital, and said the group’s insurgents fired rockets on a camp of the FC. He also claimed that the BLA militants seized weapons from the FC men. He also claimed to have killed 40 FC men.
There was no official confirmation of the death toll of the FC troops. Local TV channels said that an army major, Amir Ali, was among those killed.
The BLA spokesman said that one of its fighters was also killed in the shootout.
Security sources say that the FC forces have been deployed in Chamalang, a natural resource rich area of Balochistan. The area has a huge reservouir of coalmine.
Militants of BLA routinely launch attacks on the security forces in the region. The BLA opposes presence of security forces in Balochistan.
