IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Oct 21, IRNA -- Pakistan’s military commanders have discussed their strategy against the backdrop of high-level US delegation’s arrival in Pakistan, local media reported on Friday.

According to reports the 67th Formation Commanders’ Conference, chaired by Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, was held on the pretext of discussing country’s “external and internal security situation.”

According to sources, extensive discussions were held on Hillary Clinton’s arrival in Pakistan, the security situation in Waziristan amid the ongoing military offensive by the US and Nato forces.

An official statement by Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said the two-day long event “was part of the regular meetings and is being attended by corps commanders, principal staff officers and formation commanders.”

Reportedly, the military commanders have decided to withstand the fresh spate of the US pressure on the North Wazirsitan operation despite the joint launch the operation ‘Knife Edge’ on the Afghan side of North Waziristan border.

Last week, General Kayani is reported to have asked International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Commander John Allen to act against Afghan militants involved in terrorism on Pakistani soil.
