Explosion kills 2 'bombers' in Karachi

Islamabad, Aug 30, IRNA -- Two persons riding a motorcycle were killed as a bomb they were taking exploded in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Tuesday, police and witnesses said.

A police officer said the bomb exploded as the motorbike slipped at Abu Isfahani road.

He said two men who were passing through the area were injured after they were hit by the shrapnel of the device.

Experts from the bomb disposal squad said the two men were taking the explosives for terrorist act to other area in Karachi. A police officer said that preliminary investigation suggests that the two men were would-be suicide bombers.

The motorcycle completely destroyed and the blast also damaged a car.

Body parts of those died were scattered in the area and rescue teams collected body parts.

Karachi has seen wave of violence in recent weeks and police chief told the Supreme Court that ethnic and sectarian attacks claimed 306 lives in one month.
