Bomb blast kills 11 people in NW Pakistan

Islamabad, Aug 25, IRNA -- At least 11 people were killed when a bomb exploded near a hotel in northwestern Pakistan Thursday evening, officials said.

The bomb was attached to a bicycle and exploded when people were gathered at a hotel in the city of Nowshehra an hour after breaking their fast in the month of Ramadan, District Police Officer, Muhammad Hussain Khan told reporters.

Khan said device was a time bomb and the bicycle was parked in a small marketplace to cause more casualties. He said 10 people died at the scene. Eight more were injured who were shifted to a local hospital.

The blast also damaged the shops and two restaurants of the small markets. Soon after blast the officials of the law enforcing agencies and police reached the scene.
No group claimed responsibility.

The government routinely blames suspected Taliban militants for such attacks.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani strongly condemned bomb blast in Nowshera that killed innocent people.

The President the government and people are determined to defeat terrorism and such gruesome acts cannot deter resolve of the nation which remains united to defeat terrorists.

President Zardari asked the law enforcement agencies to take measures to protect people from terrorist acts.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to stamp out the menace of militancy and terrorism from the country. He said that those playing with the lives of the innocent people have no religion or faith and they are following their own nefarious designs.

The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured.

Both leaders expressing deep condolences with the bereaved families, directed the law enforcement agencies to investigate the unfortunate incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
