Islamabad, Aug 25, IRNA -- Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that law enforcement agencies have arrested 90 suspects on different charges during surgical action in different areas of a commercial hub of Karachi, local media reported on Thursday.

Rehman Malik, in his statement, said that targeted operation is underway against the criminals and the security forces are taking prompt action following the information received by intelligence agencies.

He said that police and Rangers have conducted 84 raids so far and arrested 90 suspects from different areas used as hideouts by these criminals. A large amount of ammunition was also recovered from their possession.

The Interior Minister appealed to the masses to cooperate with the Rangers and police during action against the criminals.

Rehman Malik said Rangers and police were taking full action against criminals and they were successful in their efforts.

The Interior Minister also said that the security forces will continue operation against terrorism until peace is restored in the city.

Earlier Pakistan key party chief Altaf Hussain had asked Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to resign if unable to restore peace in Karachi's commercial.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain in a statement said: 'It is my brotherly advice to the Prime Minister to resign from his office if he is unable to bring peace to Karachi.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has called for stern action to end the killings in Karachi.

Prime Minister Gilani said all political forces, including the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP), besides other stakeholders should be taken on board to devise a workable strategy to improve the situation in Karachi.

Analysts say Karachi has seen such violence in 16 years as extra deployments of police and paramilitary officers appear unable to stem the troubles.
