No need to call army for peace restoration: President Zardari

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, July 13, IRNA -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed hope that the army would not need to be called in to restore peace in the port city of Karachi.

Karachi is Pakistan’s financial hub and has been a victim of target killing for more than a decade.

President Zardari said that the government was committed to safeguard life and property of the citizens at all cost as it was the prime responsibility of every democratic government.

He said the government while pursuing the policy of reconciliation would continue with its efforts to take along all political forces with it on all major decisions.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to restore peace, law and order and to bring the culprits to book regardless of their political affiliations, if any.

The President expressed these views in his meeting with a seven-member delegation of Awami National Party.

Any problem in Karachi has direct effect on the economic situation of the whole country as declining law and order situation in the city brings down trade and business activities in the Pakistan’s largest city and business hub.
