Islamabad, June 20, IRNA -- Armed militants attacked houses of pro-government tribesmen in a Pakistani tribal region and killed four people, officials said on Monday.

A group of militants threw hand grenades at the house of a volunteer in the anti-Taliban peace committee in Mohmand tribal region late Sunday night, they said.

Head of the family Gulbab Khan, his son and a nephew died in the attack.

The family members returned fire but there was no report of casualty of the militants, who later escaped.

The militants also attacked the house of another peace committee member, Ghazi Muhammad, in the same area, killing a child and injuring two people, including Ghazi, his family said.

The militants lobbed hand grenades at the house when the people were asleep.

Residents in Mohmand tribal agency have formed private peace committee to help the security forces fight militants.

Taliban militants regularly target pro-government tribesmen and according to official figure nearly 140 volunteers have been killed in attacks.

Many civilians have also been killed in Taliban suicide attacks in the region.

Pakistan army said on Sunday that 25 militants were killed in Mohmand agency in air and ground operation by the security forces.

Four soldiers were also killed and several injured in clashes, an army statement said.
