Pakistan PM condemns Navy buses attacks
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad: April 26,IRNA -- Pakistani Prime Minister, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, has strongly condemned the violent attacks on two Navy buses in the southern port city of Karachi, which killed a navy officer and three other people on Tuesday.
A navy spokesman said that two attacks in different areas also injured over 50 people, mostly of the navy personnel.
The bombs were attached to motorcycles and exploded through remote control, a police officer said.
“Such cowardly act of terror cannot deter the resolve of the Nation and our armed forces to curb the menace of militancy and extremism from our society,” Prime Minister Gilani said.
The Prime Minister directed the concerned investigating agencies to probe into the incident and submit a report so that further course of action can be taken, a statement from the Prime Minister office said.
He expressed his condolences and sympathies with the families of those who lost lives and asked the Provincial Government to take care of those injured, the statement said.
Karachi has seen terrorist attacks in recent months and last week a bomb blast at a gambling center killed over 20 and injured many more.
Police said that both buses were carrying employees of the navy to work when they came under attacks.
No group claimed responsibility for the attacks. A police officer pointed finger at the suspected militants, who regularly claim responsibility for attacks on security forces.
Both buses were carrying private numbers due to security concerns. But the attacks show that the miscreants had prior information about the movement of the buses.
The two attacks in six minutes times raised questions about the vulnerable security situation and also concerns ability of the suspected militants who can strike in sensitive areas despite security measures.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sundh Province, of which Karachi is the capital, said the police had prior information about terrorist acts in the city but the focus on security had been on sensitive installations and to check target killings.
Karachi, the country port and commercial center, is also under the grip of target killings and police say that five people have been killed in 24 hours in series of target attacks.
