Pakistani President vows to fight against militants

Islamabad, March 3, IRNA -- President Asif Ali Zardari sais here Wednesday government will not be deterred by extremists and militants and will continue fight against militant mindset till final victory.
Addressing provincial lawmakers in Karachi the President paid glowing tributes to the Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti who had been assassinated a few hours earlier in Islamabad.
Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said that the President while paying tributes to the assassinated Minister said that Shahbaz Bhatti had rendered a huge sacrifice that had added another chapter of glory in the history of the Party that will not go in vain.
Taliban militants shot dead Shehbaz Bhatti in Islamabad for his efforts to amend blasphemy law, which carries death penalty for those who are found guilty of blasphemy against Islam and divine Prophets (P). Minorities say that some elements misuse the law and must be amended to protect minorities.
President Zardari said that the Party ticket for election to the seat that has fallen vacant due to his assassination would be given either to his wife or within the family so as to convey a clear message that the Party acknowledged his services in and was determined to carry forward the mission that the Party had entrusted to him and which late Bhatti was pursuing so relentlessly and dedicatedly.
The President said that the tragic and unfortunate murder of Shahbaz Bhatti will not weaken his resolve to fight the militants and extremists to the finish.
He said that the extremists wanted to create anarchy in the country to enable them capture power by force and vowed to defeat such elements. “Our national response is and will continue to be calculated, deliberate, measured and consistent against the mindset that promotes and nurtures violence in the country behind the façade of religion”, the President said.
