Massive 7.4 Earthquake Hits Southwestern Pakistan
January 18, 2011
United States Geological Service has reported a major earthquake measuring 7.4 in magnitude in a remote area in southwestern Pakistan.
The quake struck in Baluchistan Province near the border with Afghanistan.
Local TV reports said the earthquake was felt in several provinces in the country.
There were no damage or injury reports immediately available.
Earthquakes often rattle the region, in some cases with severe consequences. A magnitude 7.6 quake in October 2005 killed some 80,000 people in northwestern Pakistan and Kashmir and left more than 3 million others homeless.
