Gunmen kill three Shiites in target attack

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Dec 16, IRNA -- Unidentified gunmen shot dead three Shiites in the southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday in apparent target and sectarian attack, police and witnesses said.

Muhammad Hussain and his five-year son Mehdi Hussain were among those killed when they were travelling in a taxi on the city's Arbab Karam Khan Road, they said.
The gunmen fled after the firing.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack and the police described it as target killings.
The incident happened a day before the 9th of Muharram despite security measures in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

Dozens of Shiites gathered outside the Civil Hospital and protested against the attack and also criticized the police and security personnel for their failure to check target and sectarian attacks.

Banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi usually claim responsibility for attacks on Shia Muslims in Pakistan.
