Pakistani forces kill 9 militants in NW

Islamabad, Dec 12, IRNA -- Pakistani security forces Saturday killed 9 suspected Taliban militants in a tribal region and the insurgency-hit Swat valley, official sources said.
The sources said that five militants were killed in Swat in the northwest as the forces returned fire after an attack by the militants.
The incident occurred when the army took an under custody suspect to indicate the location of an absconding militant Shah Faisal late Friday night, they said.
“The forces were fired upon and in return fire was returned and five militants were killed,” official sources said.
Two soldiers were also injured, the sources said.
Also on Friday, the security forces had claimed killing seven militants in two separate incidents in Swat valley.
In another incident, the security forces killed four suspected militants and injured three others in Mohmand tribal region, the official sources said.
The militants attacked a check post in Saafi area of Mohmand Agency and the security forces returned fire and killed the militants.
There was no report of forces’ casualties.
Taliban militants are active in Mohmand tribal region and on Monday two bombers killed over 40 people, including tribal elders and security men, in Mohmand agency.
Meanwhile Police in the northwestern city Kohat says that a terrorist plot was foiled on Saturday and an explosives-packed vehicle was recovered.
Police chief Masood Afridi said that two people were also arrested. He said that 1000 kilograms explosives were hidden in the vehicle and the vehicle was to be used for terrorist act in the city.
A Taliban suicide bomber killed 20 people and injured over 30 in bus station in Kohat on Tuesday.
Taliban militants have stepped up attacks in recent days and also on Friday, a bomber rammed his explosives-packed vehicle into the building of an under construction hospital in the northwestern city of Hango and killed 15 people.
Police said that the bomber targeted Shiite Muslims and a banned extremist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Alami claimed responsibility for the attack.
