Chief Minister escapes suicide attack in SW Pakistan
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Dec 7, IRNA -- The Chief Minister of Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province escaped unhurt in a suicide bomb attack on Tuesday, police said.
The bomb exploded in Quetta, the provincial capital, shortly after the motorcade of Chief Minister Aslam Raisani, passed through the area, a police officer said.
One person died and eight others were injured in bomb blast but Raisani was safe, he said. The Chief Minister later reached the provincial assembly.
Police said that Chief Security officer to the Chief Minister, Muhammad Iftikhar, was among the injured who was taken to military hospital for treatment.
Two vehicles of the motorcade were slightly damaged in the attack on the city’s Sariab Road.
Police sources said that personnel of the anti-terror squad, who were guarding the chief minister, were among the injured.
The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital, doctors said.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The authorities blame such attacks on anti-government nationalist groups, who are fighting for more political rights and share in the province’s resources.
It is the second attack on top government functionaries in a week.
On November 30th Governor of Balochistan Province Zulfikar Magsi escaped unhurt in a bomb attack.
