Taliban claim responsibility for Karachi attack

Islamabad, Nov 12, IRNA -- Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the Thursday night attack on the office of an intelligence office in the port city of Karachi, local TV channels reported.

TV channels reported that 15 people were killed and around 40 injured.

TV channels showed several injured people, including children, fleeing site of the blast.

The explosion hit the office of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on I.I Chundrigar Road in Karachi.

The bomb targeted the office of the CID where suspected militants were being questioned, police sources said.

According to TV channels most of those killed and injured were policemen.

The blast caused destruction in the CID office. Several other buildings were also damaged.

The blast was heard in half of Karachi, Geo television reported.

Witnesses said that they heard firing minutes before the explosion rocked the office of the CID.

Local TV channels reported that detained members of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi were kept in the CID center.

Ambulances rushed to the site and are shifting the injured to the hospitals.
