IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad,Oct 28, IRNA -- At least 3 people were killed and several others injured in a bomb blast near a police van in Pakistani southwestern city of Quetta on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

The bomb exploded when the police van was passing through Sardariab road, police said.

The police van was completely destroyed, witnesses said.

A policeman was among those killed. Several policemen are among the injured

Witnesses said unidentified persons threw a hand grenade at the police van when it was on routine patrolling. Another police van escaped the attack.

The injured were shifted to the local hospital and doctors said several injured are in critical condition.

The attackers fled after the incident and police launched a search operation in the city to arrest the suspects.

No group claimed responsibility of the attack.

The authorities suspect anti-government nationalist groups behind such attacks, who are demanding for more political rights and share in the natural resources in the province.
