Gunmen attack 2 mosques in Pakistan, about 30 killed
15:1428/05/2010 NEW DELHI, May 28 (RIA Novosti) - At least 30 people have been killed and hundreds taken hostage by gunmen who attacked two mosques in the Pakistani city of Lahore, Pakistani TV channels said on Friday.
The attacks occurred just after Friday prayers at the two Ahmadi mosques. One of the mosques was occupied by the attackers, while at the other the armed men fled into the surrounding streets.
The militants are thought to be connected to the radical Islamist Taliban movement.
The Ahmadi Islamic sect has long been discriminated against and has suffered occasional attacks by extremist Sunnis, but nothing on this scale.
