Pakistan army chief praises anti-terror operations

Islamabad, May 19, IRNA -- Pakistan’s army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Wednesday lauded the conduct of operations against miscreants in tribal areas and Swat valley in the northwest.
Speaking at the Formation Commanders’ Conference meeting, General Kayani also highlighted the follow up role of Army in the social development of the affected areas, an army statement said.
He said the army is fully prepared to meet the challenges faced by the country externally as well as internally.
The participants were given comprehensive briefings on security environment and operational / training matters.
The Army Chief congratulated the commanders on successful conclusion of ‘Year of Training’ (2009) and series of Army Exercises called as ‘Azm-e-Nau’ (New Determination).
The conference is being attended by Corps Commanders, Principal Staff Officers and Formation Commanders.
The briefings were followed by an open and purposeful discussion, the statement said.
