Police officer, 11 other people die in bomb attack in Pakistan

Islamabad, May 18,IRNA -- A senior police officer and 11 other people were killed in a bomb attack in Pakistan’s northwest on Tuesday, doctors said.
The bomb, targeting a police mobile van, also injured 10 other people on the outskirts of Dera Ismail Khan, a main city in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province, Dr Nasir Malik, in chare of the emergency department at the main hospital said.
Deputy Superintendent Police Iqbal Khan, his guard and driver were also killed in the attack, Malik said. He said that three children and a woman also among the dead.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack, but the authorities blame such attacks on militants.
Suspected militants regularly target security forces and police in their bloody campaign against the government.
Police said that the bomb was attached to a bi-cycle and the explosives were detonated through remote control device at Kachi Paind Khan neighbourhood.
The police van was completely destroyed, witnesses said.
Doctors said that at least one injured is in critical condition and nine injured are in stable condition.
Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani strongly condemned the blast, deplored the loss of lives and ordered immediate provision of best medical facilities for the injured, the Prime Minister’s office said. He also ordered inquiry into the incident, it said.
