Pakistani Taliban 'commander' surrendered

Islamabad, May 18, IRNA -- Police in Pakistan said that a Taliban commander, wanted for his involvement in terrorist activities, surrendered to the authorities in the eastern Punjab province on Monday.
Hanif Gabol was shown on television channels while handcuffed and was standing along side with two armed police commandos in a police station in the city Sargodha.
Police said Gabool surrendered voluntarily to the police who told investigators that he had received training in South Waziristan tribal area. He revealed that he recognizes at least seven militants who are experts of making suicide jackets.
Gabol, dressed in traditional ‘shalwar qamees’, told reporters in the police station that his group comprised of 50 people, who had planned attacks in Punjab, the biggest province of Pakistan.
“I fell guilty and am ashamed over my illegal and violent activities. That is why I decided to surrender to the police”.
Police in Sargodha said that Gabol was behind the recent blasts at a busy market in the city of Dera Ghazi Khan, which had killed several people and caused damage to shops.
