Pakistan jets kill 10 militants in tribal area

Islamabad, May 17, IRNA -- Pakistan fighter planes and gunship helicopters Sunday bombed hideouts of suspected militants in Orakzai tribal region and killed at least 10 militants, security officials said.
They said that fighter aircraft destroyed five bases of the militants at Daboori and Khadezai areas in Orakzai agency at 8 a.m.
Officials in the region confirmed that 10 miltants were killed and five others were also injured in the bombing.
There is no independent confirmation of the casualties as journalists have no access to tribal areas.
They said the forces also used artillery to hit hideouts of the militants.
Pakistani security forces backed by fighter aircraft launched operation against the militants in Orakzai tribal region, the stronghold of Taliban.
Thousands of troops have been taking part in the Orakzai operation, which has not been much publicized by the army.
Official sources say that the army has so for killed over 600 militants.
UN officials say that over 200,000 people have fled Orakzai since the fighting has been started. They have moved to Hnagu and Kohat, main cities in the region.
Officials say that most of the Taliban militants from South Waziristan tribal region have moved into Orakzai agency, Pakistan’s only tribal area which has no border with Afghanistan.
