Gunmen kidnap 25 people in Pakistan tribal region

Islamabad, May 16, IRNA -- Gunmen attacked two passenger buses and kidnapped around 25 people in a Pakistani tribal region on Saturday, officials in the region said.
The busses were heading to Peshawar, the center of northwest Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province, when armed men stopped the vehicles and abducted 25 people and took them to unknown place in Kurrum tribal region, they said.
Officials said that around 60 people were traveling in three buses including several government employees. Two government employees from the power supply department are among those kidnapped, they said.
Upto 40 armed men were waiting for the buses who were traveling in a convoy. Officials said that the gunmen burnt the vehicle of the employees of the power supply department.
Sources say that security personnel were escorting the buses when the armed men attacked the caravan and kidnapped the people.
No group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
In March, a suicide bomber had struck a caravan of buses in the same tribal region and killed 12 people including four women.
Militants have blocked main roads in Kurum tribal region and the security forces accompany them fearing attacks.
