IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, May 14, IRNA -- Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Abdul Basit, here on Friday said that Pakistan will not recall its Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Bakhsh Abbasi, following the recent attack on him.
Talking to IRNA, he said Iran is our neighbor; how we can recall our envoy.
“There is absolutely no such idea, Ambassador Abbasi will stay in Iran, ” he made it clear.
Iran 's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast had earlier rejected media reports about an assassination attempt on Pakistan's ambassador in Tehran .
"Pakistani envoy, Mohammad Bakhsh Abbasi was walking in a Tehran street when an unarmed Afghan national attacked and beat him up," Mehmanparast said.
Abbasi appears to be the first Pakistani ambassador who has been attacked by an assailant while representing his country abroad.
Abdul Basit replying to a question said ‘we are waiting for the investigation report of the incident, let’s wait for the report’.
He said Ambassador can only be recalled when the overall security situation collapses, as was the case in Iraq, or because of the nature of relations with the host country.
