Bomb attack on police van injures 4 in Pakistan

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, May 1, IRNA -- A senior police officer and three other police personnel were injured in a bomb attack on their car in Pakistan’s southwest on Saturday, police said.

The police vehicle came under attack on the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, during routine patrolling, police said.

Police said that senior police officer Alam Tarkani, his guard driver and another police man were injured in the blast. Rescue teams said that two civilians were also injured and all the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta by the people.

Police said that the bomb was planted at a rickshaw and exploded through a remote control at Kali Qamrani neighbourhood.

Witnesses said that the police vehicle was totally destroyed after it caught fire. Fire fighters were called to extinguish the fire.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

A Baloch militant group “Baloch Republican Army” usually takes responsibility for such attacks.

Quetta has seen incidents of targeted killings in recent months. Officials say that Baloch insurgents, fighting for more political rights, target people from other parts of the country and who are settled in Balochistan.
