Suspected militants kill tribal elder in Pakistan

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, April 27, IRNA -- Suspected militants have killed a known and pro-government tribal elder after he and his five colleagues were kidnapped in Bajaur tribal region, his family and officials said on Monday.

Maulvi Abdul Hakeem was kidnapped Sunday night while he was way to home after offering prayers at Nawagai, a main town in Bajaur agency.

His bullet-ridden body was found near a dry canal Monday morning, witnesses said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident. But Taliban militants have killed many pro-government tribal elders in Bajaur and other tribal regions.

The army says the security forces have cleaned Bajaur agency, border Afghanistan, of Taliban militants. But locals say they are still active in several parts and are now targeting tribal elders and those who support the army’s operation.
