Suicide bomber blows himself up to avoid arrest

Islamabad, April 9, IRNA -- A would-be suicide bomber blew himself up and another was shot dead by the police during a shootout in a remote village in northwest Pakistan on Friday, police said.
The police surrounded two suspected bombers in Lakki Marwat district the North-West Frontier Province, after information was received about their entry into the area for terrorist attacks, district police officer Ayub Khan said.
The bombers refused to surrender and fired at the police party at Amir Wanda village, he said. The police returned fire and one bomber exploded his bomb stripped to the body to avoid arrest and the other was killed by the police, Khan said.
Eye witnesses said that the bomber arrived ay Amir Wanda village on motor bike and a large contingent of police rushed to the area after receiving information about their presence. They said that the young bombers exchanged fire with the police for some 30 minutes.
The police took the bodies in control for identification, a police officer said. Lakki Marwat district has seen deadliest attacks in recent months on the security forces, members of the anti-Taliban peace council and the residents who supported the government operations against the militants.
On January 1st, a suicide attack in Lakki Marwat District killed at least 105 people and over 100 were injured, many of them critically. A suicide bomber blew up his sport utility vehicle filled with explosives in the middle of a crowd in a small village of Shah Hasan Khel, that had gathered to watch a volleyball game. It was thought that the villagers were targeted because they had formed a pro government militia against the Taliban.
