Pakistan Parliamentary Committee for cessation of US drone attack

Islamabad, Jan. 15, IRNA -- A top Pakistani parliamentary committee Thursday called for cessation of US drone attacks in the country’s territory.
The National Security Committee of the Parliament, which is composed of all mainstream political parties, also stressed that the work of all foreign security contractors in Pakistan must be transparent and they must be regulated.
The 17-member committee presented the recommendations to the Foreign Ministry to be incorporated in Pakistan’s foreign policy.
The Committee also underscored the need that there should be no compromise on the country’s nuclear program, Chairman of the Committee Senator Raza abbani said.
The committee noted with concern the Indo-US nuclear deal which it observed has altered strategic balance in the region.
The members called for a similar agreement with Pakistan, Senator Rabbani told reporters after the Committee’s meeting.
The Committee advocated for peace in Afghanistan and said that peace in the war-shattered neighbouring country is crucial for Pakistan.
The world should initiate a robust and regional approach in regard to Afghanistan, the Committee stressed.
The form said that Pakistan and Afghanistan must respect each other to build mutual trust.
The Committee called for revival of the Afghan jirga peace process and interaction between the parliamentarians, media, cultural teams and traders.
The Committee proposed that Pakistan should play role to build the capability of Afghan national forces.
The members said that soil of Pakistan and Afghanistan should not be used against each other.
Pakistan should offer to facilitate political reconciliation in Afghanistan, the Committee stressed.
The Committee noted with concern that the growing Indian presence in Afghanistan is posing strategic threat to Pakistan.
The Committee also called for resumption of composite dialogue between Pakistan and India with the assistance of international community to resolve the longstanding Kashmir issue.
The international community should recognize the losses Pakistan has suffered due to terrorist attacks and military operation and that the world community must help Pakistan export its goods to other countries.
