Pakistani MPs condemn US drone strikes
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Jan 8, IRNA -- Lawmakers from Pakistan’s main Islamic party Thursday condemned strikes in the country’s tribal regions by the US drone aircraft which they said are killing innocent people.
Three senators from Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan said that during the last one week four attacks in North Waziristan tribal region have been made killing mostly innocent people.
“It is significant that the Pakistan government has not even formally protested over this persistent and arrogant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty,” they said in a statement.
Senators Prof. Khurshid Ahmad, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and Afia Zia said the continuous US aggression against Pakistan amounts to a virtual declaration of war and government’s silence is criminal and intolerable.
The Senators said that the Parliament must take immediate notice of this and force the government to review the entire policy of surrender to the US game in the region.
“It deserves to be noted that USA has withheld $1.2 billion to be reimbursed for services rendered by Pakistan in the US war on terror”.
“America is twisting our arms on small issue like this and we cannot take a firm stand on US attacks on our soil. Parliament and the nation must rise to the occasion to protect Pakistan’s freedom and sovereignty,” the senators said.
The government is flouting the unanimous resolution of the Parliament which asked the government to take effective measures to get these violations of our sovereignty stopped, they said.
