IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Dec. 27,IRNA -- Five people were killed and two others wounded in a gunbattle between two rival militant groups in a Pakistani tribal region on Sunday, locals said.

Clashes erupted between the banned ‘Lashkar-e-Islam’ and ‘Ansaar-ul-Islam’ groups in Terah valley of Khyber Agency.

Sources said that supporters of both groups used light and heavy weapons to target each others’ bunkers.

At least five people from both sides were killed and two others seriously injured, some sources said.

However, due to inaccessible area, the casualties could not be independently confirmed.

Both groups usually launch attacks on each other's bunkers and controlled areas to take control on the maximum territory in Terah valley.

The security forces had launched operation against ‘Lashkar-e-Islam’ in Terah valley earlier this month but the militants showed string resistance.

Hundreds of families from Terah valley shifted to safer zones due the tense situation.

Hundreds of people have been killed and injured between the rival groups in Khyber Agency over the past few years.

Meanwhile, suspected militants blew up a barber shop in Landikotal, the center of Khyber Agency, officials said.

The late night blast smashed windows of the shop but no one was hurt.
