US drone kills 8 people in Pakistan's North Waziristan

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Dec. 18, IRNA -- US drone aircraft Friday killed at least 8 people in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region, locals said.

Four missiles were fired in Dutta Khel area on houses and a graveyard where people were burying victims of another US drone attack Thursday, they said.

Officials in the region confirmed the strike but said they do not know about the number of casualties.

Locals said that missiles also struck tents of nomads, mainly Afghans who migrated to Pakistan in summer.

It was the third strike in North Waziristan in two days. On Thursday, US drones carried two attacks and killed 17 people.

Locals said that the people could not immediately rush to the site of the Friday attacks and they feared more strikes.

On Friday, US drone fired missiles when the people were heading to the site of the first blast to pull the bodies and injured out of the rubbles.

It was the 6th US drone attack in North Waziristan in few weeks.

On December 7, a drone strike on a vehicle killed three people near Miranshah.

The drone struck militants at a time when Pakistani forces had taken control of most of the areas in the neighbouring South Waziristan.

Officials say that militants have moved to North Waziristan and Orakzai tribal region.
