MOSCOW, August 30 (RIA Novosti) - A suicide bomber entered a police training center in northwest Pakistan on Sunday, and killed at least 14 police cadets, officials said.
The attack in Mingora, the largest town in the Swat Valley, comes amid a major military operation in the area against terrorist groups. Several other police recruits were injured in the blast.
Local information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told media that the attack took place while a new police force was being trained. Locals reported hearing a loud blast followed by gunfire.
No insurgent groups have yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistan's Taliban has pledged to step up violence to avenge the death of their leader Baitullah Mehsud, believed to have died due to injuries suffered in a U.S. air strike on August 5.
