Upto 800 militants planning attacks in Pakistan's northwest: army

Islamabad, June 11, IRNA -- Upto 800 militants have gathered in an area near North Waziristan tribal region and are planning attacks in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), army said Wednesday.
The army said that 600-800 terrorists reached Jani Khel, a town between Miranshah, the center of North Waziristan and Razmak, a major town in the tribal region.
“They were planning to strike at different places in NWFP,” an army statement said.
The security forces launched operation in Jani Khel area few days after the militants kidnapped over 200 students and their teachers.
“The Security forces engaged suspected terrorists' locations at Jani Khel with heavy fire,” the army said and added that clearance operation in area is in progress.
About military offensive in Swat and Malakand areas, the army said during last twenty four hours, 23 terrorists were killed in various areas and a terrorist commander Wali Ullah handed over himself to Army. Two soldiers were also killed and 12 soldiers were injured including 2 officers.
A local ‘Lashkar’ or army has moved closer to terrorists at two villages in Upper Dir district. Intense exchange of fire is taking place, reportedly 50 terrorists from other areas came to support terrorists at Shatkas, who were engaged by Lashkar and they finally ran away.
The Lashkar was formed after the Friday suicide attack in a mosque, which had killed over 40 people.
