Huge bomb blast at five-star hotel kills five in Pakistan

Islamabad,June 10, IRNA -- At least five people were killed in a huge bomb blast at a five-star hotel in the Pakistani northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday, witnesses said.

The blast occurred at the heavily-guarded Pearl Continental Hotel in cantonment area of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province at around 10:40 p.m.

District Coordination Officer, Sahibzada Anis, confirmed that five people were killed and around 25 were injured.

A witness said that he heard firing which was followed by huge blast. He said he saw injured laying in the Hotel’s lobby.

Witnesses said that the attackers first attacked the hotel’s check post and later exploded a mini-truck with the hotel’s building.

The blast also caused damage to the lobby and parts of the left side of the multi-storeyed building, witnesses said.

Ambulances rushed to the hotel and shifted injured to nearby Lady Reading Hospital.

Witnesses said that they saw thick smoke in the sky shortly after the blast.

Officials said that a provincial minister and a senator were among the injured and were taken to the hospital.
