Suspected militants blow up girls' school in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 5, IRNA -- Suspected militants blew up a Government Girls High School in the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar on Thursday, police said.
No one was hurt as the school, at Badaber locality, some 10 kilometers from Peshawar, was shut at the time of the attack for summer vacations.
Police said the militants had set six explosive devices weighing 40 kilograms in the building.
At least seven rooms of the school were completely destroyed and three were damaged in the incident.
According to the initial investigation by the police, the militants used time devices to blow up the building.
Meanwhile, the city police have taken strict security measures at various exit and entry points in the provincial capital following the reports of possible terrorism acts targeting government installations and other crowded areas like parks and hotels.
The police are checking National Identity Cards and car registrations at the entry and exit points of the city and cantonment to avoid the possibility of any mishap.
