IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, June 3, IRNA -- Pakistani Wednesday told Islamabad-based envoys from the Persian Gulf and G-8 countries that it is determined to take the security operation to its logical conclusion, the Foreign Office said.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi emphasized that Pakistan is able to build a national consensus against the militants and violent extremists.
"The people of Pakistan were fully behind the Government's efforts against the miscreants," he said.
The foreign minister briefed the PGCC and G-8Ambassadors on the ongoing Swat operation and how the government with the support of the people of Pakistan and the international community, was trying to provide adequate relief assistance to the dislocated population, the Foreign Office spokesman said.
The foreign minister emphasized that it was important that the international community expedited their response to the UN appeal, enabling UN agencies to continue their relief operation without any disruption.
"There was need for more assistance from the international community, especially G-8 countries, to fill the gaps."
The foreign minister said winning the hearts and minds was equally important to succeed against terrorism.
Envoys from PGCC and D-8 countries expressed full support to the government in the fight against terrorism and militancy.
