Twin blasts kill five, injure 100 in Peshawar

An official of district police said that the blasts occurred in the congested Qissa Khwani bazar where large numbers of people were busy shopping.

The blats followed by snipers’ firing and police said they killed two alleged terrorists.

The police believed to have arrested two terrorists.

The condition of five injured was stated to be critical as 100 were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital, a doctor at the hospital said.

Emergency was declared in hospitals and the people were asked to donate blood.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. But such attacks are blamed on militants.

The incident is third in a row in Peshawar city during last two weeks that claimed almost two dozen lives.

The Chief of Capital City Police Sifwat Ghayyur who was personally taking part in the operation, told reporters that search operation was going on and urged the people to keep away from the site of the shooting. The routes connecting City with cantonment have been blocked as safety measure.

Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has ordered an inquiry into the blasts in the heart of provincial capital.

The Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters at the site of shooting that the blood game is about to end and the terrorists are at the run.

Provincial police chief Malik Naveed told reporters that forces will eliminate terrorists at all costs and could not be deterred through such cowardly acts.

He did not reveal names of the arrested terrorists.

Operation, he said, was successfully continuing under the supervision of city police chief Sifwat Ghayyur.

He said the police were doing their best to maintain public order.
